For the final workshop we will visit Hazel Bird Nature Reserve and learn about the tall grass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems.

July 18, 10 am - A Walk Through my Native Plant Garden

Learn about a prairie pocket, a hummingbird garden, a “soft landing” understory garden, and a woodland garden.
August 15, 10 am - How to Create a "Soft Landing" Understory Garden

Soft landings are diverse native plantings under keystone trees (or any other regionally appropriate native tree). These plantings provide critical shelter and habitat for one or more life cycle stages of moths, butterflies, and beneficial insects such as bumble bees, fireflies, lacewings, and beetles. Soft Landings gardens are critical to our bird populations, as 96% of birds feed their babies caterpillars.
